Purpose: The Importance of Skin Education

From my experience in the skin industry, I have come to understand that improving and altering the skin can be quite complex. Mainly because it is an organ like all others, in fact it is our largest and most exposed.

The purpose of this blog is to give a more in depth, biological education in skin care. I have always endeavoured to empower my clients with as much knowledge as possible, in order for them to be able to make more informed decisions.

There are a few basic principles that are absolutely necessary for a healthy skin. Once they have been clearly explained and understood, the client can be confident with implementing and experimenting with their own regimens.

More then that, I hope to deter the public from seeking out those harsher remedies that are so pervasive in our markets.

The progression of my education and career in aesthetics, resembles that of a video game character, finding their way through a seemingly never ending labyrinthine. This meant that I gathered a wide array of skills but found commitment almost impossible.

However it was during a short interval in my life whilst working for MAC Cosmetics that finally there was clarity.

With so many women, and sometimes men, turning towards makeup for skin confidence; I felt an obligation to steer them away from thick foundations, concealers, primers, colour correctors and guide them towards skin care first. Much to the unfortunate annoyance of my managers but this is the burden of having a moral compass.

As time passed, I became exposed to the issues and insecurities that skin conditions caused which prompted me further in the pursuit of skin therapy.

Like the bark of the tree, the skin is dangerously naked to the environment and its abrasive elements. In the meantime, it plays almighty protector to our skeleton, muscles and organs as well as portraying the outward image we present to the world.

Sadly, this delicate organ must also endure our own manipulations such as burns, cuts, bruises, inappropriate skin care and conditions like chronic skin picking. The decline is rapid and unforgiving. Without any kind of intervention even with favourable genetics, we may even come to lose our sense of self.

Caring for one's appearance inspires confidence, the act of looking after yourself will indeed create a stronger bond of self love. As when we give to ourselves, we have more to give to others.

I hope to imbue clients with this habit of routine care, just as they would do with prioritising healthy meals.
